July 2000

What Hollace Has Been Up To Lately!

Hollace discovers the moon!

The world is an exciting place. After the 4th of July picnic at my folks, Hollace discovered just how fantastic the world is. She has always been a pointer but now it is point, go "oh! oh! Whassat?" or "see it?" Yesterday while standing at the park across the street she starts the oh! oh! and points up. What do we see? It is the moon, a white spot on the blue sky. There could not of been anything else she was pointing too. She is so excited. She says words but I don't know how many. For the most part they aren't really recognizable. I feel kind of guilty because I am not all in touch with her vocabulary other than 'bye-bye', 'mamma', 'dad', 'hi', 'uh oh', 'ball', 'baby', 'whassat?' and 'see it?'. I guess I should be pretty happy that she is doing 2 word questions, eh?

...and she is trainable

I was totally surprised last week while sitting outside on the patio I decided Hollace and I needed to make a trip to the mailbox but I didn't have my shoes. I ask Hollace to go inside to get me my shoes. She then slides open the screen door, goes in the living room (not where I usually have my shoes but apparently did then) grabs both of my shoes and comes back out where she drops them in front of me. I was shocked, I didn't really expect her to do that, let alone come out with a complete pair of my shoes. She gets it!

Vacation 2000

RAW had his fishing trip with the guys all planned out, unfortunately it coincided with a major meeting of March Moms in Virginia on the BB I frequent . I was certainly not going to drive alone with Hollace for 12 hours and I am too cheap for airfare. At one point I thought Sherry might come with me but Hollace isn't really a good car rider so I scraped the whole idea of going. So instead I settled down with the idea of being a stay-at-home-mom for a week.

It is a good thing that I skipped the trip to Virginia because the project at work I had been working on the last month was about to get intense. I had to finish up a 10 minute animation before I could go on vacation so they could add the voice-over in time for presenting at the World Aids Conference in Durban South Africa. Very prestigious job.

Anyway, RAW leaves for his vacation on a Thursday and drops Hollace off at work. I soon realize that there is no way I am going to finish up that that day, especially after all the changes I got from the client at 3:30 Thursday. What am I going to do with Hollace? Desiree, who works for herself (and is working with me on this project) said she can take Hollace on Friday, they go strawberry picking. Des brings her back to work in time for another client meeting where Hollace ran around with Desiree's daughter Bianca --up and down the halls. I still needed another full day of work on this project so on Saturday I ship her off with Lisa V. who takes her to the beach. On Sunday I finish up this project during Hollace's nap and after she goes to bed and by Monday at 7:00 a.m. a courier comes to the house to pick up my files. I am done and Hollace is the only one who has has any type of vacation so far. Still didn't really do anything special by Wednesday when RAW comes home. We just hang out till the 4th of July weekend where we headed to the folks.

Boy, is she growing like a weed.

She use to be consistently be in the 40th percentile in height and 25 percentile in weight but at her 15 month appointment in May she shot up to the 90th percentile in height (that is 4" in 3 months she remains at 25 percentile in weight). She has her 18 month checkup in August and the way it looks she might be off the charts in height now. She is so long, yet still when someone asks how old she is they still comment, "she is so small". Go figure!
