My Somersizing Info Page - Work in Progress

I get a lot of requests to tell people what Somersizing is and how it works since I have been so successful (90 lbs in 18 months). From now on I am going to send people here instead of retyping it over and over again. This is only a summary of Somersizing. Go buy one of Suzanne's books for a more detailed description of this diet.

Somersizing is kind of a low carb diet. The carbs you eat on this diet are quality, whole grain carbs. First of all I hate to call it a diet, I am going to call it a Way of Eating (WOE) from now on. Real simply put you ditch the sugar and junk carbos here.

With this WOE you food combine. What that is, is you only eat your whole grain carbos with no fat or protein and fat/protein with no carbos. For example I eat 2 pieces of toast every morning with no-fat butter spray. When you eat a carbo meal it is a no-fat meal. Needless to say most of your meals with this plan will be protein/fat which is why it seems to be a low carbo diet, there is more variety. The fat/protein meals are so satisfying and you never get hungry on this plan. Actually you eat till you are full and don't count calories or carbo grams.

Veggies are good on with either carbos or protein/fat. The difference would be that you couldn't have butter or other fat if you eat veggies with carbos and you could have cheese or whatever if it is eaten with protein/fat.

When I talk about carbos I am talking about whole grain (no enriched, watch your labels) with no sugar added. No pasta unless it is whole grain. From what I understand it is hard to find good whole wheat pasta. Bread is one thing I could never give up and you don't have to with Somersizing. You have to read labels. No enriched wheat. You got watch it, there are a lot of breads out there claiming to be healthy wheat but are not whole wheat or they have enriched wheat in the label. You have to watch how much added sugar is in there. It is pretty hard to find some sugarless bread as it takes some to help yeast rise. The bread I buy is Natures Oven brand, more specifically Nutty Natural. There are no nuts in this bread, just crunchy grains.

Funky foods:
Potatoes are a no no on this WOE. The startch in a potato turns to pure sugar, may as well eat a big sugar cube! You can eat lots of veggies on this plan even though they are technically carbos. For the most part they don't spike your blood sugar like startchy foods do. There a few veggies that are on the funky food list. Carrots, beets amd corn are 3 major ones. Refer to the book or a more detailed Somersizing site (link below) for a complete list.

You can eat fruit on this plan but the general rule is only on an empty stomach. You can then eat a carbo meal about 20 minutes afterward or one hour for a protein/fat meal. Most fruits are ok but there are a few that are considered funky, like bananas.

Dairy products have been a source of confusion with people starting this WOE. Is it a protein/fat or a carbo? Well it is both. If you think about it too hard it won't make sense but the general rule is skim (no-fat) milk for a carbo meal and heavy whippping cream, full fat sour cream, and cheese for protein/fat. Any low fat milks or dairy products and whole milk are funky.

Well this page is a start. I will be fixing it and adding to it and re-clarifying it in the future, in the meantime this will do.

Nancy --90 lbs lost, 30 lbs. to go!
